A birth doula supports you throughout the birthing process, from prenatal informational support through labor and birthing your baby. Whether you are planning an unmedicated birth at home, hospital birth with your doctor, a scheduled induction or cesarian birth and everything in between, your doula will help you navigate each step and ensure you are confident in the decisions you make.
A postpartum doula is a support person who works with a newly postpartum person, usually in their home. Whether your baby or babies arrived from your body, adoption or via surrogate, the fourth trimester can be overwhelming. You are learning to parent your baby and your baby is learning, well, everything!
Whether you are seeking support with feeding baby, yourself or your family, managing household tasks, supporting older siblings with the transition or getting a solid nap so you're feeling more confident to care for your baby, a postpartum doula does it all.
Providing evidence based information, professional community based resources and most importantly, individualized emotional support are important parts of what we do to help ensure you are cared for after baby arrives.
Imagine yourself holding your newborn, in a cozy corner of your home or your bed, being brought trays of warm foods, snacks, teas, while your home is being taken care of and picked up. When baby is awake, they are hungry, so we ensure feeding is well established and troubleshoot any issues or uncomfortable bits. Laundry is being folded and bathroom baskets are being replenished so you have easy access to everything you need. A warm bath sounds good, so baby gets tucked into a snuggly wrap and held while you bathe. A pot of soup has been prepared and left for dinner later that evening. You are able to ease into your postpartum, melt into becoming a parent, feel the connection and support all around you. That is what having a postpartum doula is.
